Western History Center Special Collections Library Guide
Scope and Contents
This is a subject-based guide to books avaliable for use in the Casper College Library's Western History Center. The books are organized by overarching subject categories, some of which combine different subjects. The basic overarching subject categories are the American West and Mythos; West (U.S.) -- Culture, Narrative, and Sport; Local Roots and Wyoming History; West (U.S.) -- Fiction, Literature, History.

Conditions Governing Access
Reading Room & Access Guidelines: To preserve rare or not widely held assets while maximizing academic and professional utility: • Non-Circulation: Materials will remain on-site, secured in reading room lockers, at the request of readers. • Active Reserves: Staff will facilitate a "bookmark reserve" system, allowing readers to hold up to two books at a time for the duration of a semester. • Research Support: Staff will actively guide students and users in utilizing WHC book and microfilm scanners for course-related information use and data extraction.

System of Arrangement
The Western History Center's non-circulating special collections library is arranged on reading room-adjacent shelves and in closed storage by ten overarching subject categories. As an example of the layout of a finding aid or guide reflecting the Western History Center as space, this thematic organization of secondary sources is designed to be used as a way of intellectually mapping to the provenance- and context-based principles of our primary archival record groups. By bridging these two descriptive practices, the repository aims to actively facilitate researcher transit from general secondary literature directly into our physical manuscript and boxed collections.
