 Collection
Identifier: NCA 01.v.2008.01 WyCaC US

Scope and Contents

The Jack Rosenthal Maps and Papers consist of 42 framed U.S. Geological Survey maps tracing the steps of Ferdinand Vandeveer Hayden and the men that accompanied him on his surveying expeditions. The maps are arranged and described in the map gallery section of this guide. These maps date from 1848-1909. The archives and its student staff have added scans from original copies of the U.S. Geological Surveys as well as a copy of a photograph taken by the photographer William H. Jackson as found in the Charles "Chuck" Morrison Collection. Viewers will also find an obituary found in the Neal Forsling Papers on the east gallery wall. Jackson's obituary has been reproduced and added to the gallery from the Papers of Neal Forsling. All items in the gallery are arranged according to the direction the wall they are on faces. In addition to the maps in the repository's closed storage gallery space, users will find other papers and items that were a part of a gift made to Casper College from the Jack Rosenthal Family in 2008. Other pieces of the Jack Rosenthal Maps and Papers include Wyoming State Stamp and Stamp Books; a series of papers on Wyoming Postal History; papers on the Wyoming State Quarter; an Oregon Trail License Plate; and a replica leather saddlebag from the Filenor Leather Shop in Cody, Wyoming.
