Wyoming Symphony Orchestra: Jonathan James, 2002 - 2008
Scope and Contents
After an entire season of searching for a new conductor, the WSO chose Jonathan Shames as their next maestro during the 2001-2002 season. The 2002-2003 season "Changes" allowed the new conductor to experience rehearsals and performances with community, implant, and junior musicians, both in and out of Casper and Wyoming. Shames brought a lighter atmosphere to the orchestra but kept the difficult repertoire and gave the WSO a successful six years. During his time with the WSO Shames not only led 4-5 concerts a season, but kept up with community events, namely a Pops in the Park Symphony event with the Casper Ghosts baseball team at Mike Lansing Field and a special performance on Casper Mountain for the Beartrap Summer Festival. Shames brought the Orchestra into the next century and was their maestro until he left in 2008. The records of Shames' time with the WSO are reflected in newspaper articles, programs, and posters.
