Scope and Contents

From the File:

Curtis Peacock was the next maestro of the CCS and spent 30 years in total with the Orchestra. The Symphony gained local and national attention, was able to host some of its biggest, most successful events, and became a true, professional Symphony under Peacock's tutelage. Peacock was guided by assistant conductor Rex Eggleston for the 1972-1973 season, notably his trial run as conductor, and by 1974 he was official. The Symphony had four name changes under Peacock: Casper Civic Symphony (1972-1973), Casper Symphony (1974-1977), Casper Symphony Orchestra (1978-1993), and Wyoming Symphony Orchestra (1994-Present). Curtis Peacock and the Casper Symphony Guild brought in impressive guest artists and performers, vocalists, ballet and dance companies, and invited many local talents and musical groups to play with the Symphony. During the Peacock era the Symphony hosted many successful concerts, community events, fundraisers, and gave opportunities to young musicians to experience and contribute to the symphony. The Casper Symphony Orchestra was so successful and popular that they became more than a community orchestra and changed their name to Wyoming Symphony Orchestra, traveling around the state, marking the promotion to an official Symphony Orchestra. Peacock retired from the WSO in 2001 after 30 years and left an incredible legacy in his wake, but also very big shoes to fill. There is every kind of document on Curtis Peacock and the Orchestra at that time, from scrapbooks, photographs, posters, and programs. The Peacock era is the biggest, longest conductor history in the timeline and it is thoroughly documented throughout the collection.
